Dr. Shahid Tasleem is working as Lecturer of Uzbek language in the Academy of Third World Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia New Delhi since 2004. He obtained his Master’s degree in Urdu Literature with 1st division from Magadh University, Bodh Gaya in 1991. He then joined the Deptt. of Urdu, University of Delhi and completed his M.Phil dissertation on A Study of the Symbolic and Allegorical elements in the Urdu Short Stories after Independence and Ph.D on A Comparative Study of the Texts of Prem Chand’s Urdu-Hindi Short Stories under the supervision of Prof. Qamar Rais, in 1999. He also pursued a Diploma course in Uzbek language in the Deptt. Of Uzbek, State University of Oriental Studies, Tashkent, Uzbekistan in 1998. He was awarded Red Diploma denoting distinction grade in the subject of study.

He worked as Reader of Urdu & Hindi from 1997-98 at the Deptt. of South Asian Language, State University of Oriental Studies Tashkent, Uzbekistan and then as lecturer of Urdu in the University of Delhi for more than three years.

Dr. Shahid Tasleem writes on various aspect of language and literature. His articles and reviews are published in various journals. He also presented papers in national and international Seminars.

He has been a member of several learned bodies like Academic Council, Central Reference Library Committee, University of Delhi (1996-97) and member of Urdu-Uzbek Dictionary Committee Tashkent State University of Oriental studies Uzbekistan (Oct’97 to Sep’98).

His forthcoming publications are: 1) Uzbek Language for Learners and 2) Uzbek Language for Advanced Study.

His specialization is on Central Asian language, literature and culture, particularly of Uzbekistan.
