Field of Research Interest: Dr. J.A. Khan has long experience in plant virological research. His research interests are molecular characterization of viruses, development of their detection systems and genetically engineered resistance. Currently he is focusing on begomoviruses and Cotton leaf curl virus (CLCuV) in particular. His group has characterized a number of CLCuV isolates from different regions of India. They have successfully utilized full-length clones of CLCuV isolates and associated satellite DNA β for designing and developing RNAi constructs in producing transgenic resistance in
tobacco. Future goal includes generation of RNAi-mediated resistance in cotton.
