Scientific Skills

  • Working in field of Plant Proteomics which includes extraction of proteins or protein complexes from cellular and subcellular locations, blue native PAGE, 1st and 2nd dimensional run on Immobilised pH Gradient (IPG) strips (on IEF Cell, protein focusing) and SD-PAGE, respectively followed by image analyses of coommasie and silver stained gels, protein spot identification, tryptic digestion of proteins, data interpratation using advanced bioinformatic tools, ultimately leading to identification of stress responsive proteins.
  • Ten years experience of experimental designing and working with stress physiochemistry of plants under abiotic stress such as Salinity, Lead, Cadmium and Fe-deficiency.
  • Proficiency in working with plant tissue culture, recombinant DNA technology and protein purification from different plant parts and determination of their profile by 1D and 2D Gel-Electrophoresis.
  • Expertise in secondary metabolite extraction from different plant parts; quantification of secondary metabolites employing HPLC, lipid extraction from plant tissue, their esterification, and fatty acid profile screening employing the GLC.
  • At home in measuring oxidative stress in different plant samples in response to several abiotic stresses and studied DNA Damage, changes in activities superoxide dismutase, ascorbate peroxidase, glutathione reductase, catalase, proteases, nitrate reductase; and phytochemical assays such as soluble protein, proline, lipids, chloroplastic pigments, ascorbate, glutathione, MDA, H2O2, sulphur, lead, cadmium, etc. contents in different plant tissues.
  • Have studied changes in ultra-structure of chloroplast and mitochondria in response to heavy metals and salinity stress employing Electron Microscope.
  • Good experience of working with BN-PAGE, IEF Cell, 2DIGE, Electron microscope (EM), Polymerase Chain Reactor (PCR), High Performance Liquid Chromatograph (HPLC), Gas-liquid Chromatograph (GLC), column chromatography, Scintillation Counters, Gel Documentation, Spectrophotometers, Centrifuges, Infra-red Gas Analyzers (IRGA), Leaf Area Meters, etc.
  • Expertise in operating computers using windows MS-Office (all versions), Internet explorer, PDQuest, Melanie 7, Blast-X software, primer designing softwares, protein, nucleic acid and microbial colony size estimating and Rf value determining software (UVI Tech), Page-maker, Adobe Photoshop, Harvard Graphics and Coral Draw.
