Press Release: Inauguration of the New Session at MCRC, Jamia
The AJK Mass Communication Research Centre, Jamia Millia Islamia will be inaugurating the new Academic Session 2012-13 formally on the 6th of August, 2012.
The formal inauguration welcome will be by Prof. S.M. Sajid, Registrar, Jamia Millia Islamia.
On this occasion, distinguished AJK MCRC Alumni Ms. Aparna Sanyal, Documentary Filmmaker & TV Producer; Mr. Akshay Roy, Filmmaker and Ms. Iram Ghufran, Documentary Filmmaker & Artist will be present and will go on to share their experiences with the new entrants to MCRC, Jamia Millia Islamia.
Ms. Aparna Sanyal completed her masters in Mass Communication from MCRC in 2003. She has worked with CNN and Times Now. In appreciation of her contribution to filmmaking, the British Council selected Aparna as a ‘Young Creative Entrepreneur’ in 2010. Her 2011 Film A Drop of Sunshine won the National Award for Best Educational Film in 2011.
Mr. Akshay Roy completed his Mass Communication from MCRC in 2003. He has worked with the likes of Mira Nair, Deepa Mehta and Farhan Akhtar. His film The Last Dance (2005) has won several international awards and recognition. His 2011 film The Finish Line won aNational Award for Best Film on Sports in 2011.
Ms. Iram Ghufran completed her Masters in Mass Communication in 2004. She went on to work with Sarai Media Lab and Centre for Study of Developing Societies. She has also taught at MCRC. In recognition of her work, she has recently been awarded a Residency in Zurich by the Swiss Arts Council. Her 2011 documentary There is Something in the Air won Two National Awards in 2011 for Best Direction and Best Editing.
The inauguration function is scheduled to be held on August 6, 2012 at 11 AM in the Faculty of Engineering Auditorium, Jamia Millia Islamia. The Director of MCRC Prof Obaid Siddiqui will preside over the event.
