Introduction

The Department of Chemistry is one of the leading Departments of the Faculty of Natural Sciences. The Department offers the following programmes of study:
  • Ph.D. (in Inorganic, Organic, Physical and Materials Chemistry)
  • M.Sc. (with specialization in Inorganic, Organic, Physical and Materials Chemistry)
  • B.Sc. (Hons.)

The Department comprises of highly competent faculty members including seven Professors, five Associate Professors and eight Assistant Professors. Each faculty is actively engaged in research and has published more than 400 research papers in reputed peer reviewed Journals during last five years. The Department has one patent to its credit. Each year, an average of 10-15 students are awarded PhD degree. The Department is funded under special assistance programmes viz. UGC-SAP (DRS-I) and DST-FIST (Level-I). The department has received research funding to the tune of 2.4 crore during last three years from various National and International funding agencies (DST, CSIR, UGC, DRDO, DBT, Ministry of Environment and Forest, University of Tabuk, Govt. of Saudi Arabia). The department regularly organizes seminars/ conferences and invited talks by eminent scientists/researchers from various universities/research institutes within India and abroad. Educational tours for UG and PG students to visit various National research laboratories are arranged every year.

The Department possesses many sophisticated research Instruments including: CHNSO Analyzer; Fluorescence Spectrophotometer; Thermogravimetric Analyzer (TGA/DTA); Differential Scanning calorimeter (DSC); BET Surface Area Analyzer; HPLC and others.

The research programmes is focused on the following frontier areas of chemical sciences:
