Message of Vice Chancellor

Dear Alumni,

Greetings from Jamia Millia Islamia!

It gives me immense pleasure to launch the Global Jamia Alumni Network (GJAN) as a platform that will bring together, strengthen and unify our alumni from around the world.

This 96-year old university has a long history of excellence in academics and in the tremendous contributions that our students have made to their respective fields whether in India or elsewhere.  With a vision to bringing back to Jamia this rich pool of talent that is at the moment interspersed and scattered, GJAN has been conceptualised and initiated.

We can achieve tremendous traction if this large network of alumni were to unify and work for the betterment of the JMI community in several areas including placements of students, trainings, providing academic inputs to their alma mater and in updating the curricula to match the latest industry/ market requirements. I also hope that GJAN will also support the university in financial terms through instituting fellowships and by helping the cause of those students who come from economically weaker backgrounds.

Over the last two and a half years as Vice-Chancellor of this prestigious university, I have met alumni in different countries and continents and have found a common connection that binds them together-- the love of their alma mater as they moved out of the annals of this university with happy memories and as confident students ready to take on the world. GJAN hopes to bring all these synergies together. It aspires to be a platform that will transform this latent zeal to contribute back to the university into a lifelong reality. Therefore, I strongly recommend that all our alumni should register with GJAN.

Towards these goals, I also propose to institute an annual get-together cum dinner of the alumni network along with their families on 24th December every year.

I am convinced that GJAN will fulfil its objectives. Equally, I know that it is only a matter of time before Jamia alumni prove to be a robust platform that will serve as lifeblood of this great university that its founders conceived nearly a century ago. I assure you that it will be a philosophically enriching and academically satisfying journey which will coalesce us into a powerful association driven by philanthropy and compassion.

Let us work together for the betterment of Jamia community.

With warm wishes,

 Yours truly,

Prof. Talat Ahmad

Vice Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, India
