Jamia Millia Islamia, a Central University, is a much sought-after international students' destination, given its diverse academic community, cosmopolitan environment, multicultural ethos and advantageous location in the nation's capital.
The grand old university which completed its centenary in 2020 is well-known nationally and internationally for being a pioneering institution ever since its inception. Upholding its rich and enduring tradition, Jamia has excelled in all significant national and international rankings in recent years. The university achieved the coveted A++ rating in its second cycle of NAAC in 2021. Moreover, the university has held its third position in the 'Universities Category' for the second year in a row, in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) India Rankings 2023. An important milestone in global rankings was reached when it was placed among the top 10 Indian universities in the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2023, highlighting JMI's commitment to internationalization and academic excellence on a global scale.
The university offers a wide range of programmes in various fields of study under its 11 faculties, 44 departments and 30 research centres attracting brightest students from all over the world. The university's resolution to promote cultural exchange and global perspectives further enriches the academic experience for its diverse and vibrant student community.

This office is the nodal agency in the University for the Facilitation of all foreign students. The Office is situated at Room No. 20-21, Old SRK Hostel Building, Gate No. 8, JMI. Its main areas of operation are:
- Processing admission applications of all foreign nationals applying for admission to various courses of the university under various categories i.e ICCR scholars and the applicants under supernumerary seats.
- Establishing equivalence of certificates/foreign degrees on the basis of AIU’s recognition of international institutions
- Issuance of provisional admission letter for obtaining necessary VISA
- Creation of FSIS Ids for FRRO use
- Issuance of bonafide certificates for registration with FRRO and other agencies
- Documentation and assistance with police verification and FRRO Registration
- Maintaining data of all foreign students
- Facilitating transit residential accommodation at Jamia’s Girls and Boys Hostel
- Assistance to expediting degrees/certifications both before and after the departure of the foreign student to his/her country
For matters concerning foreign students the office maintains communication with various embassies, Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO) etc.
At some point in admission time, certain existing foreign students from different countries are identified to help new candidates seeking admission at Jamia Millia Islamia. Special care is taken that Arabic and Persian speaking students can provide assistance to such candidates who are not well versed with English Language.
Presently, a large number of foreign students are enrolled in various UG, PG and Ph.D. programmes from different countries under various categories of admission including:-
Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Iraq, Canada, Georgia, Iran, Korea, Malawi, Mauritius, Philippines, Palestine, Singapore, Sudan, Taanzania, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Nepal etc.
