The department of Electronics and Communication Engineering came into existence at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology in 1996, by the approval of All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), to meet the growing requirement of practical design engineers in the country and abroad. Since its commencement, the primary objective of the department has been to impart quality education, training and research at the undergraduate and doctoral levels in various areas of Electronics and Communication Engineering with broad emphasis on design aspects of Electronics and Communication systems to produce scientists and technologists of highest caliber.
The mission of the founding fathers of this great institution serves as a beacon light for all the stakeholders, and inspires in making this department as one of the best in this institution of higher learning and in providing cutting edge learning experience, internationally benchmarked education, intellectual freedom and critical research opportunities in frontier areas of contemporary concern.
The department has come a long way since its inception, keeping pace with the changing needs and expectations of the society by simultaneously and successfully performing the multiple roles of creating new knowledge, acquiring new capabilities and producing an intelligent human resource pool for the promotion of economic growth, cultural development, social cohesion, equity and justice.
The Department has always been on a high growth path and has experienced and dedicated faculty with strong commitment to engineering education who work with zeal and enthusiasm to provide a vibrant and optimum learning environment. To keep pace with the current technological trends, the department has a well designed, constantly reviewed syllabus to incorporate all advancements in existing and emerging technologies which gives the students a holistic and pragmatic view of the present scenario of the Electronics and Communication industry. The academic program is designed to enable growth and learning in a highly focused and application-based environment and is achieved through a combination of formal lectures and hands-on experience in well-equipped labs. The state-of-the-art laboratories, such as VLSI lab, Digital Image Processing Lab, Circuit Simulation Lab, Instrumentation & Sensor Lab, Communication Lab, complement the high standards set by the competitive syllabus and nurture the inclination of the students towards research and development, besides giving them the necessary and sufficient backing of practical knowledge that they need. The Department provides access to high end software like QUAL NET, PSPICE-16.3, Xilinx, TCAD, ANSYS HFSS, Cadence Suite and MATLAB. Technical Co-curricular and extracurricular activities of the students include participation in paper presentation, workshops, seminars, quizzes, technical competitions and participation in cultural activities channelized through various clubs and events in the university.
The Department runs two undergraduate courses - B. Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering and B.E (evening) program in Electronics and Communication Engineering. 70 students each are enrolled to both the courses every year through a highly competitive All India entrance test, which yields the best students to the department. A proposal to start the M.Tech Course has also been submitted and the course may be started at the earliest. The department believes in serious academic pursuit and encourages radical and original thinking which paves the way for creativity and innovative ideas. The faculty members of the department are invited as speakers, reputed journal reviewers and members of expert committees.
A strong positive reputation of the department pulls companies like TCIL, HCL, TCS, Perot Systems and many more for campus recruitment. Equipped with a powerful technical and practical skill set, our students get high ranking jobs and good startup salaries in both public and private sectors. The qualities inculcated in students make them not only good engineers but also good human beings. The department takes pride in its highly placed alumni all over the globe.
Candidates from the department who are pursuing further studies are doing immensely well in both India and abroad. In India, our students are present in large numbers at IIM’s, IIT’s and NIT’s and international presence can be seen in U. S. A, UK, Germany, Australia, Switzerland and Canada to name a few. Each year, a large number of our students also qualify the GATE exam with high percentile.
The Department currently has 27 research scholars working in the areas of Microelectronics & VLSI, Analog & Digital Signal Processing, Communication Engineering including Mobile and Wireless Communication. The Research Scholars are required to attend course work before they actually start work on their problem.
Quality Standardization Policy is in force in the Department. In a harmonious and respectful environment, the students are delivered quality technical education so as to respond to rapidly changing social and economic environment. Their all round personality is developed so that they are devoted to serving the nation and community by generating and disseminating knowledge and technologies essential to the local and global needs in the field of Electronics and Communication Engineering.
