Vision & Mission

Vision

The educational vision of the Department of History and Culture is to help write and teach the History of India and the World in a way that is both cosmopolitan and rooted in our national experience. We inherited the blue print of Nai-Talim from the great nationalist leaders and Jamia’s founding fathers such as Mahatma Gandhi, Ali Brothers, Hakim Ajmal Khan and Dr. M.A. Ansari.

Mission

The Department seeks to translate this vision into action in four simple steps:

  • Creating a syllabus that reflects the richness of India’s past and its historical links with the world.
  • Teaching this syllabus to students in Hindustani and English so that it becomes more accessible to them.
  • Encouraging our students via field trips and seminars to actively engage with the past, not as passive spectators but as participants.
  • Supervising imaginative and meticulous dissertations so that the department becomes a significant contributor of original historical research.
