Dr. Sujata Ashwarya is Professor of West Asian and International Studies at the Centre for West Asian Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, with more than twenty years of research and teaching experience. Her scholarship centres on India's engagement with West Asia and the Gulf, spanning political economy, security partnerships, and India's management of complex triangular relationships (India-Israel-Iran; India-GCC-US). Her current research develops minilateralism as a framework for conflict management, examining India's relational power in minilateral forums. A second, long-standing line of her research addresses energy governance in West Asia and North Africa, including Iran's post-sanctions oil and gas sector, Iraqi hydrocarbon recovery, and Israel's Mediterranean gas, the subject of her Routledge monograph. Her work on the region's domestic politics includes the co-edited volume Comparative Electoral Politics and the Quest for Representation in West Asia and North Africa (Palgrave Macmillan, 2026). She is the author and editor of eight books with Routledge, Palgrave Macmillan, and other publishers, and has published in leading peer-reviewed journals including Survival, International Relations, The Pacific Review, Journal of Asian and African Studies, Global Discourse, Pacific Focus, Asian Perspective, Insight Turkey, India Quarterly, and Strategic Analysis. She has served as Principal Investigator on four ICSSR-funded projects and has supervised ten completed PhDs. She completed her postdoctoral studies at MSH-CERI, Paris, and has held fellowships at the East-West Center (Washington, D.C.), Brandeis University, and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Her commentary has appeared in The Indian Express, The Diplomat, and the Georgetown Journal of International Affairs, and she has offered expert analysis on regional affairs to the BBC, China Daily, Al Jazeera, the South China Morning Post, and TRT World.
