Dr. Vijay Kumar has been working as Assistant Professor in Jamia Millia Islamia's Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management since 2011 and associated with tourism department since 2006. He is one of the founding members of the tourism department in the Jamia Millia Islamia. His expertise includes tourism pedagogy, transportation and itinerary planning and costing, and tourism policy. Dr. kumar is a Master of Tourism from IGNOU, New Delhi and received his degree in B.Com from Delhi University and Ph.D. in Tourism from Jamia Millia Islamia. He has remained actively involved as an expert/resource person with Delhi University, St. George's College Aruvithura, Kerala, and REWA University (Bengaluru), and other educational institutions. He has given lectures and presented papers at various seminars and conferences held in various Indian states. Shikshak Kalayan Foundation named him a Best Teacher in 2021. His publications include research articles in national and international journals, a book, and book chapters.
He worked for the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (Ministry of Railways, GOI) to promote the Mahaparinivana Express and Maharaja Express. Before joining Jamia Millia Islamia, he worked for aviation sector, inbound and outbound travel agencies.
