Firdous Azmat Siddiqui is Associate Professor at Sarojini Naidu Centre for Women’s Studies. She teaches Gender Studies since 2006. She had teaching experience of over two decades. Her area of research includes Gender History, Status of Muslim Women, Identity Politics, Minority Identity & Demography, Social Stratitification among Indian Muslims, Gender and Electoral Politics, Gender & Law and Personal Laws in India. She has contributed many Research Paper in National and International Journal on various issues of Muslim Women and Minority issues. She is author of the Book ‘A Struggle for Identity: Muslim Women in United Province’ published from Cambridge University Press India Ltd. The book is highly acclaimed on the subject of Indian Muslim Women in colonial period. She has completed two majour Research Project on issues of Women. Recently she submitted her research study on Inheritance Rights of Indian Women and she has been raising women’s rights in inheritance from various platforms. Beside her academic contribution she is author of three fictions (two novels and one Novella) and a poem collection. Her latest novel, Zindaa.n (Urdu) published in 2022. She has been recipient of Uttar Pradesh Urdu Acdemy Award for her novel, Iqra for the year 2021. She also has been conferred best Researcher Award by the InSc Award for Excellence in Research for the year 2022. Beside these fiction and nonfiction writing Dr. Siddiqui has been regularly contributed to news paper column as well as web portal on current issues pertaining to minority issue in India. She has been actively participated as a panellist both in Radio Programme as well as TV Debate on current issues pertaining to women.

 

Personal and Academic Information: Firdous Azmat Siddiqui is born in Phulpur, a small town of Allahabad in 1975. She completed her secondary schooling Certificate from GGIC, Phulpur, Allahabad and Higher secondary education from Mary Wana Maker Girls Inter College. She obtained her BA Degree (Mod. History & English Literature: 1995) and MA (Modern History: 1997) from University of Allahabad.  She obtained her Ph.d on the topic ‘Socio & Economic status of Muslim Women in United Province’ (2008) from Department of Medieval & Modern History, University of Allahabad.
