CONFERENCES
Five of the library’s professional staff were trained to undertake the work in computerized environment for one week i.e. from 7th –11th ct. 2002 through IRTPLA, a five day seminar cum training programme sponsored by Inflibnet/UGC and organised by Dr. Zakir Husain Library. The programme was attended by 19 librarians of universities, colleges and research institutions of Delhi.
10 other such staff provided an opportunity to attend the workshop for one full day each in the batches of two persons each day to enable them to have an insight of the Library Automation programme.
The library also organised the IXth Annual convention of “Ranganathan Research Circle” in Jamia Millia Islamia on 18th an. 2003 and the theme was “Library Automation Software Packages: Yesterday, today and tomorrow “. The convention was attended by about 150 working librarians, library & information science students and software engineers of various institutions of higher learning and other professional organizations of Delhi.
The library organised in collaboration with Inflibnet/UGC to host 2nd International CALIBER-2004 from 11th –13th Feb. and the theme was “Road Map to New Generation Libraries Using Emerging Technologies”. More than 250 delegates of library & information professionals, teachers, IT professionals, consultants & Information providers involved in automation & networking of libraries from SAARC countries, Europe and from almost every state of our country India, participated and deliberated their views on the issues.
EXTENSION LECTURES & SERVICES
Demonstrations of library software packages to students on the occasion of the convention on ‘Library Automation Software Packages: yesterday, today & tomorrow, organised at JMI on 18th Jan., 2003.
About 6 to 7 extension lectures each session organised by the library on different presently relevant topics of the modern librarianship from time to time. The resource persons were from within different institutions of Delhi apart from a lecture of Prof. Gregg Notess, State University of Montana, from USA on “Web Searching Strategies: an exploration of advanced techniques” on 23rd Feb. 2004.
Students admitted to different courses of Jamia have been provided exposure to the “Jamia Library System and Services” through a well scheduled orientation lecture cum library visit programme during the beginning of each academic session.
EXHIBITIONS ORGANISED
The library organised an exhibition”The Founders and Authors of Jamia “on the occasion of Jamia’s Foundation day celebration from 29th Oct. till 15th Nov. 2002. The exhibition was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chancellor Janab F.T. Khurakiwala on 29th Oct. 2002 in presence of the Vice Chancellor Janab Syed Shahid Mahdi Sb. A large number of academics, researchers, students and guests visited the exhibition and expressed their appreciation for refreshing and benefiting their knowledge about Jamia’s development through the ages.
The library organised an exhibition of books by & related to Ali Sardar Jafri on the occasion of a seminar on “Social Relevance of Literature in the memory of Ali Sardar Jafri”. The seminar was jointly organised by Urdu Academy, Sir Sayed Foundation and the Deptt. of Urdu, Jamia Millia Islamia, on 14th/15th Dec. 2002.
The library organised a book exhibition displaying the works & publications of Munshi Nawal Kishore on the occasion of the ”National Seminar on Munshi Nawal Kishore and his times” held on 31st March to 1st April 2003, organised by Deptt. of Urdu, Jamia Millia Islamia.
The library organised a photographic exhibition “Jamia Through the Ages” depicting the development of Jamia since its inception till date during 2nd to 6th August 2003 at Mumbai, on the occasion of a seminar-cum-workshop on “Peace-keeping and Conflict Resolution” which was organised in collaboration with the Times Group, The Tata Institute of Social Sciences and Anjuman-e-Islam, Mumbai at the initiative taken by Shri F.T. Khurakiwala, the Hon’ble Chancellor and Shri Syed Shahid Mahdi, the Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia. The exhibition was inaugurated by Shri Ishaque Jimkhanawala, a noted social worker, a prominent politician and the President of Anjuman-e-Islam, Mumbai. About more than 1500 persons visited the exhibition.
The library organised a book exhibition displaying the books and publications of Firaq Gorakhpuri and Prof. Gopi Chand Narang, & the works related to them on the occasion of “5th Firaq Memorial Lecture” organised by the Deptt. of Urdu at Ansari Auditorium, Jamia Millia Islamia on 2nd Sep.2003.
To commemorate the Birth Centenary year of Prof. Mohammad Mujeeb, the library organised an exhibition on his life & works from Oct 29th to Nov 7th 2003 in Exhibition Hall of the Library. All the literary works of Prof. Mujeeb, in form of books & articles published in different magazines and journals like, Risala Jamia, Payame-Taleem, Aajkal, Nai Roshni, Jouhar, Aligarh Magazines, Mojalla Saifia, Hamdard Jamia, were displayed. The exhibition also displayed 176 photographs depicting, his life & activities during his association with Jamia. The exhibition was inaugurated by Janab Syed Shahid Mahdi, the Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia. A large number of academics, researchers, students and guests visited the exhibition and expressed their appreciation for refreshing and benefiting their knowledge about Prof. Mohammad Mujeeb and his contributions towards Jamia’s development.
