Ayla Khan is an Associate Professor at the Department of Architecture in Jamia Millia Islamia. She acquired her Bachelor Degree in Architecture from Government College of Architecture at Lucknow after which she pursued her Post Graduation in Landscape Architecture from the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi and PhD from Jamia Millia Islamia.

She has worked under Prof. M Shaheer at Shaheer Associates, New Delhi one of the leading firms in Landscape Design and Architecture. The firm has been landscape architecture consultants to the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, her significant contribution here was research, on-site verification and documentation of native flora in the Sunder Nursery revitalisation project. She also took an initiative towards preparing a landscape master plan for the Jamia campus through efforts of identification of open spaces, mapping tree species and framing policies of making it a green campus. Gardens designed by her on the campus through the departments’ consultancy cell have not only matured as visual delights but also as green open spaces for use by students.

Diversifying her interest in the History of Architecture and Indian art she pursued a certificate program in Art Appreciation from the National Museum at New Delhi. Her teaching methodology draws from skills in structuring study and relating theory with experience .She has presented her research papers at both national and international seminars, conferences and symposiums. She has extensively published on subjects of Landscape theory, Landscape studies in the fields of ecology and sustainability. She has continued to have an engaging pursuit with ISOLA (Indian Soiety of Landscape Architects), Delhi Chapter where she has been associated with the core organising committee for several events. She has also been associated with the Landscape Journal India and has been an honarary member on the journal's editorial board.
