Taruna Bansal is a Professor at the Department of Geography, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. An alumnus from Jawaharlal Nehru University she completed her doctoral studies from the Centre for the Study of Regional Development, Jawaharlal Nehru University. 

She has diverse work experience spanning urban studies, regional development, and social geography. 

Her research interests are in the areas of urban, socio-cultural and gender geographies, particularly in urban ecology, historical geography, ethnomusicology, and geographies of tourism. She has also been working on the conceptual traditions in cartography.

She is proactively engaged in the development of e-content and self-learning materials (SLM) for various platforms like e-PG Pathshala, IGNOU, Uttarakhand Open University, and Swayam-Prabha to name a few.
