Professor Ghulam Mohamad Shah works as the Honourary Director, MMAJ Academy of International Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. Prof. G.M.Shah was Coordinator, UGC Centre for Central Asian Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia from August 2016 for a period of three years. Prof. G.M. Shah joined the Academy of Third World Studies (renamed as Academy of International Studies in 2011), Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, as an Assistant Professor in June 1998, and was subsequently appointed as an Associate Professor (Central Asian Studies) in October 2005. Prof. G.M. Shah is a Geographer by training. He is a specialist on Central Asian region and his fields of specialization include: Development Geography, Political Geography, Regional Geography of Central Asia and Social Science Research Methodology.

Prof. G.M. Shah has passed his Matriculation and Higher Secondary examinations under the Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education in 1978 and1980 respectively. He has received his higher education from1981 to 1982 at Govt. Amar Singh College Srinagar, which is presently nodal centre of Cluster University of Srinagar, Kashmir. Prof. G.M.Shah has joined the Post-Graduate Department of Geography and Regional Development, University of Kashmir in 1983 to pursue his Masters Degree in Geography and Regional Development. He has joined the Centre of Central Asian Studies, University of Kashmir in 1986 to pursue his M. Phil. & Ph.D. Programmes. Before joining the Jamia Millia Islamia in June1998, he has worked as a Lecture in Geography at Govt. Women’s College, M.A. Road Srinagar for the brief academic session in1990. He has worked as a Research Associate (Regional Geography) at the Centre of Central Asian Studies, University of Kashmir, Srinagar from December1993to May1998.
