His academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Plant Science from Jamia Hamdard on medicinal plants Artemisia annua and Cassia angustifolia and a Postdoc from the University of Tuscia, Viterbo, Italy, on Plant Proteomics.
Teaching and Mentorship
Dr. Qureshi is dedicated to fostering an engaging and inclusive learning environment. He teaches courses in biotechnology, emphasizing molecular stress physiology, and advanced omics emphasizing proteomics. He actively mentors students, guiding them in academic pursuits, research initiatives, and career development. So far he has taught 18 batches of B.Sc. Biotechnology, 18 batches of M.Sc. Biotechnology, and around 6 batches of Doctoral candidates in their coursework. So far he has guided 20 Doctoral students and 7 postdocs.
Research and Innovation
Dr. Qureshi's research focuses on the molecular stress physiology of plants, particularly mechanisms of stress response against abiotic stresses like heavy metals. His lab employs proteomics, metabolomics, and genomics to study these mechanisms. Additionally, his translational research involves the genetic engineering of plants to express selective antigenic proteins that may serve as vaccines. His work has been published in reputable journals, contributing significantly to the field.
Professional Service
Dr. Qureshi has been recognized with several awards, including the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Excellence Award for Education in 2020 and the INSA-DFG Visiting Scientist position at Friedrich-Schiller University, Jena, Germany (2018-2019). He is an Erasmus Plus Teacher of the European Union. He serves on various academic committees and contributes to the advancement of biotechnology education and research.
Community and Academia Collaboration
Dr. Qureshi engages with academia and community partners to translate research into practical applications, focusing on plant biotechnology and stress physiology. His collaborations aim to develop stress-resilient plant varieties and explore plant-based vaccines, bridging the gap between research and real-world applications.
Interdisciplinary research
Stepping toward real-world health problems, Dr. Qureshi has made advancements in interdisciplinary research fields harnessing the potential of phytochemistry and drug discovery using AI to treat diabetes and cancers.
