Harjeet Kaur Bhatia is a distinguished Professor of Educational Technology and former Head at the Department of Educational Studies at Jamia Millia Islamia (A Central University). She began her journey in the field of education as a school teacher and, since then, has been a persistent and resilient educator who has spent more than three decades shaping and transforming the minds and lives of young educators. As an educational technology specialist and passionate educator, she possesses a wealth of knowledge and skills to lead synchronous, asynchronous, blended learning, and online learning programs. She excels in integrating innovative and interactive teaching methods with transactional engagement. She has a flair for fashioning a classroom environment conducive to the process of learning and is dedicated to nurturing student interest in educational technology and empowering them through hands-on collaborative projects with the intent to equip the next generation of educators to adeptly utilize emerging technologies in their classrooms. She firmly believes that learner-oriented teaching fosters the development of diverse skills, knowledge, and scientific attitudes in students, thereby promoting purposeful and enduring learning.
She is a sought-after speaker who has delivered several keynote addresses as well as chaired sessions at various national and international seminars and conferences of repute. She has also organized national and international conferences and workshops, supervised several scholars at doctorate and masters courses, and published numerous articles in leading journals. Her papers and books cover topics including policies to leverage technology to accelerate learning and skills development, raising teacher effectiveness, role of ICT in teaching-learning, use of OERs, TPACK, online learning, flipped learning, MOOCs, sustainable use of ICT, use of social networking sites for education, assistive technologies, etc. Additionally, she has served as a resource person and subject matter expert for various orientation, sensitization, faculty induction and development programmes, and extension lectures, including panelist for live discussions across different national platforms. Besides that, she also serves on several advisory and editorial boards of various journals in the field of education. Her current research interests include digital technologies, blended learning, peer collaboration, inquiry-based, reflective and collaborative learning, technology leadership, SNSs, assistive technologies, maker spaces, ICT4D, etc.
Also, Prof. Harjeet has researched, evaluated, and disseminated technology resources, and has been associated with international organizations, such as SIIA, Washington and Sciknow, USA as a judge and reviewer. Besides that, she was the Deputy Coordinator of DRS- SAP major project of UGC granted to the Department of Educational Studies from 2007-12. Some of her accolades include the ‘Bharat Gaurav Award’ in the year 2014 by IIFS and ‘Distinguished Academician Award’ in the year 2024 by Metharath University, Thailand.
