Dr. Sonali Sharma is an Assistant Professor (Cinematography and Editing), Senior Scale, and currently the course coordinator for the M.A. Mass Communication programme. She has taught fiction and non-fiction filmmaking at the Centre since 2010.

She pursued her Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Kamala Nehru College, University of Delhi, and completed her Master's degree in Mass Communication from AJK MCRC. Her practice-based doctoral research focuses on the intersection of documentary, mobility and interactive media practices. Her research interests include children and digital media, digital cultures, documentary, interactive media, media production, and social media. She has published in CineAction and Asiascape: Digital Asia, and presented her work at national and international conferences, including IAMCR, i-Docs, the Interactive Film and Media conference, the Mobile Studies Congress, and Visible Evidence.

Before joining academia in 2010, she was a media practitioner associated with television broadcast channels NDTV Profit and Zee Sports. She received the PSBT-MCRC fellowship for the film On the Verge (2009), which was telecast on DD News and DD1, and screened at Open Frame 2010. Her work as a cinematographer-editor includes audio-visual documentation for the NGO Save the Children, and editing India- and Indian culture-centric features for FOXTEL in Australia during the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
